Srimathi Sudharshan, quoting from your mail : >Another version says > that > > her horoscope indicated that the man she would > marry > > would meet his death soon after their union, and > hence > > the difficulty in finding her a husband. I believe the above version is the correct one. Recently, I had the chance to hear a discourse on Kooraththazhwar's Dhivya Gunangal by 'Sri Varadharajan Swami' at Kooram, that confirms that the above version. He remarked the name of the dosham that Andal had as - 'samshruddha dosham'. As the quality of the audio was not that good, I am not very sure on the exact pronounciation of the dosham. Also the following article on Kooraththazhwar supports the above and is inline with the version I heard from the discourse. ----quote--- Koorathazhwan was the ruler of the kingdom of Koora-ma-nagar. On a nocturnal inspection, he heard cries from a house. He overheard the cause of the grief thereof. As a girl had horoscopical indication of instant death to her spouse on marriage, the family was thinking of permitting her to take suicidal action. Melting at this human sorrow, he summoned the parents of the girl to his court and offered himself for marrying her so-called daughter. As this would endanger the life of the Ruler, they hesitated. But Koorathazhwan comforted them by saying that nothing untoward would happen as he would not lead a conjugal life in the manner of the worldly men and that his marriage would end their sorrow as even as provide him with a partner in life for dharmanustana. As he wished, Andal and Koorathazhwan became man and wife- a divine couple with nothing of the earthly yearnings in them but as living exemplars of the sastric injunctions. Andal was equally, if not more, bestowed with jnana, vairagya and atma-gunas as, it used to be said that, whenever a doubt arose in Koorathazhwan's mind, she gave him the necessary light and clarification! ----unquote--- The complete article is available in the following link: http://www.srivaishnavan.com/tomcat/sub_guru.html Ramanujar Thirvadigale Sharanam, Kooraththazhwar Thirvadigale Sharanam, Dasan Ramanan Rangachari --- Sadagopan <sgopan@xxxx> wrote: > Dar SrImathi Sudarshan: > > Dr.Vasudha Narayanan , Professor of Religion > at University of Florida has an outstanding > article on the extraordinary Pathni of > Swamy KurEsar. > > By copy of this note , I am requesting her to help > you. > > Best wishes, > V.Sadagopan > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Chitra Sudarshan" > <chitrasudarshan@xxxx> > To: <Oppiliappan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; > <malolan_net@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; > <srirangasri@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Saturday, September 27, 2003 7:37 PM > Subject: [SriRangaSri] Kooraththazhvar > > > > > > Dear fellow vaishnava bhaktas > > > > I am working on an article on Kooraththazhwar and > I > > was wondering if anyone out there can clarify one > > matter for me or refer me to authentic sources: it > is > > regarding his marriage to Andal in Kanchipuram. > That > > her father had problem getting her married is > > accepted: however, I have read two versions for > this > > state of affairs.
