Dear all,

It was refreshing to read Sri Sudarshans elaboration of four types of seekers
as per Bhagavadgita. I have three minor comments on the elaboration:

1. The Lord uses the adjective sukrit (good do-ers)for the janAh. All these 4
kinds are sukrit according to the Lord.
Although He considers jnAni as the supreme, anyone who turns to the Lord for
any reason is considered good enough by the Lord. Thus, they all get the sukrit
adjective. Such is His kindness.

By using the word Sukrit, Lord is also implying that there are people who are
(asukrit) averse to Lord(Hiranyakashipus, communists and the self proclaimed
rationalists among us).

Emphasis on Sukrit is missing in Sri Sudarshan's translation
(see below).

>>"chatur-vidha bhajantE mAm janAh: sukritnOr'juna
ArthO jignyAsur'arthArthi gnyAnI cha bharatar-shabha"
                          (Bhagavath-gita: 7:16)

"There are 4 principal motives, O Arjuna, why men of
this world turn to Me in worship", said the
GitAchAryA. <<<<<

2. Artha is explained as fear by Sri Sudarshan. Artha not just fear. One who is
hurting is Arthi.Fear is a special case of hurting. If I cut my hand or leg or
some other sort of physical ailment, it hurts. I may pray for quick healing or
to divert from pain.

3. Actually the gUna of gnAni is also defined by the vedanta
(Sri Sudarshan says it is not defined in the Vedanta). if Artha (Tamasic),
arthArti (Rajsic) and gignAsu (sAtvik) covers triguNatva, gnAni represents
guNAtItatva.
That is what the Lord wants Arjuna to become in the shloka:
traiguNya vishayA vEdA
nistraiguNyO bhavArjuna.
