Site Statistics
How do I get Stats for my collection?
To get site statistics for your collection, you need an Urchin account. If you don't
already have an Urchin account, see below for the steps to get set up.
If your collection is a subdirectory of ibiblio.org, eg.
ibiblio.org/cybersufis, then we already have an Urchin account set up for you, and you can browse
to our gentle introduction to Urchin. No need to fill
anything out below.
Please note that site statistics are only available to active contributors. If you
would like to become an ibiblio contributor, please have a look at our
Collection Criteria.
Steps to get set up for Urchin
If you already have an ibiblio login and have set up your collection, you can apply to
get an Urchin login. Please be aware that we have a limited number of logins that we
can give out for Urchin, so we might not be able to give you access to Urchin right away.
- Create a text document with the following information:
- Your name.
- Your email (that you check most frequently).
- The collection (ibiblio-hosted site) you're associated with.
- The ibiblio login/username you wish to have access to Urchin
- Paste the above into the body of the help form here.
- Make the "Subject of your problem" be "need Urchin access for sitename," where
sitename is the name of your collection/site.
- Make "Your Email Address" be the same email as above.
Caveat lector!
Urchin has trouble with some special characters in passwords. If you just got set up
with an Urchin account and it's not working, try changing your password to something
alphanumeric.
What happened to the old stats system?
We used to have a minimal webapp at ibiblio.org/stats
that purported to offer stats, but as our systems grew and changed, that webapp failed to keep pace,
and eventually it became clear that the stats being offered on that page were not reliable and
the webapp had become unmaintainable. Urchin is good. You'll like it.
