While Jane preferred the pool, RWR preferred to spend his leisure time at his tiny Northridge horse ranch. Despite his aversion to getting mussed up, he enjoyed doing work around the stables himself and even built a jumping course for the horses. This jumping course, a set of stacked redwood logs, was the source of Jane's teasing.
"It isn't Aintree by a long shot," Ronald said, "but it will give us something to test out mettle."
"Mettle?" Jane said. "You mean the stuff out of which they build the pins used to fasten broken bones together?"
