Nancy's influence

Early in Reagan's administration as Governor of California, a reporter, Warren Olney was in Reagan's office. Reagan had made a statement in Sacramento that his budget director has contradicted in Los Angeles. The phone rang. Reagan picked it up and apo logized to the reporter, explaining," It's my wife."

"Yes, dear," he said several times. Finally, he said of the finance director, "No, dear, I don't think he was being insubordinate. It's just when I say something in Sacramento and he says something in Los Angeles, we'll have to get together." The report er carried away the impression that Nancy had considerable influence.
