Judith

I grew up at a time when it was NOT okay to be gay and being gay was “the love that dared not speak its name.”  There was no gay pride, no role models and until the 50’s, no magazines or novels that talked about a sub-culture that has doubtless always been there.  I am so privileged to have lived long enough to experience a movement both organized and dignified that makes a strong case for equal rights.

Up to now I have lived an amazingly fortunate life; especially considering the mainstream attitudes that were prevalent most of my younger life.  I had a 30 year relationship with my wonderful partner Christine [Chris] who died in 1992.  In 1993 I met my current partner, Joyce and we have had a second chance to live, love, thrive and be happy for the past 15 years.  We enjoy some remarkable friendships with women and men of all ages, who we cherish and consider “family”.

My activism here in the Triad has been a gift for me.  It has taught me about myself, given me a chance to meet new friends, interesting people and experience a life I could never have imagined.  I continue to work at a career in marketing with people who allow me the freedom to be creative and, most important for me, I continue to learn, grow and change.  Life is good.  I am grateful.  I look forward to what comes next.
