Merlefest

Merlefest, The American Music Celebration, kicks off this week in Wilkesboro. The event has grown in its almost 20 years, and this year expects 80,000 music fans for four days of foot-stomping roots music, jazz and rock. Host David Crabtree talks with two Merlefest veterans, musicians Jim Lauderdale and Darrell Scott. They’ll discuss the festival and they’ll play a few songs to preview their upcoming performances. Bound By Law

Duke law professors figured the only way to make intellectual property law accessible to the general public was to write a comic book. The result is “Bound by Law,” sixty-six pages of adventures from a day in the life of Akiko, a documentary filmmaker who fights for fair use of intellectual material that is in the public domain. Three Doctors

Three Doctors: Thirteen years ago three boys set a goal to one day raise themselves out of their tough inner-city neighborhood. Their pact was to become doctors, together. Leoneda Inge, a reporter at North Carolina Public Radio – WUNC, wanted to share their story with her son, Jean Christian. She talks with host David Crabtree about taking Jean Christian to interview The Three Doctors – Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt, and George Jenkins – and we hear excerpts from the interview. (10:00)
