GI Bill: In the years after World War II, the population at North Carolina’s colleges and universities exploded with new students, most of them funding their education with the new GI Bill. In the last 60 years, different versions of that bill have helped millions of service members and their families receive educational benefits. Today, those benefits are a major tool in military recruitment. Host Frank Stasio talks with Bob Serow, professor of Educational Research and Leadership at NC State; and Dick Kohn, professor of history at UNC-Chapel Hill, about the impact of the GI Bill on higher education and the military. We also hear from Ginger Byrd, a former member of the Army National Guard, who has been unhappy with her access to GI Bill benefits. Listener Call-In. (32:00)

Delfeayo Marsalis: Host Frank Stasio talks with trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis about drawing inspiration from biblical sources and being a member of a famous musical family. The jazz musician plays a concert at Duke University on Thursday night. (17:30)
