Abu Ghraib, One Year Later

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

It’s been a year since the American public first saw the pictures of prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. Ft. Bragg-based private Lindy England has pleaded guilty this week to charges of abuse for her role in the humiliation depicted in those pictures. Another enlisted man, Charles Grainer, has already been sentenced to ten years in prison for his role in the scandal. Many of the military’s highest ranking officers in Iraq and at the Pentagon have been officially exonerated for any role. Does this mark the end of the Abu Ghraib scandal? And how has public perception of the military changed in the last year? Host Melinda Penkava speaks with Scott Silliman, professor of law at Duke University law professor; and Mike Munger, chair of the political science department at Duke. Listener Call-In. (40:00)
