Triangle Newspapers

In 1980, the Triangle was served by five daily newspapers. Today, there are two, and they have very different editorial and publishing strategies. Host Melinda Penkava looks at the changing newspaper habits of North Carolinians and at the competition between the Durham Herald-Sun and the Raleigh News & Observer. Abigail Washburn has mixed her love of the Chinese culture with her interest in bluegrass to create a sound somewhere between Beijing and Nashville. Her new album, “Song of the Traveling Daughter” (Nettwerk/2005) features the title track, which is based on the Chinese poem, “Song of the Traveling Son.” Host Melinda Penkava talks with Abigail about her new album. Prior to his nine years leading that church, he spent nine years as a Priest at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Raleigh.
