MacDonald Case

Former Army surgeon Jeffrey MacDonald was convicted of killing his wife and young daughters in 1979. The well-known case was in the news again this week when Jimmy Britt, a retired federal marshal, swore that part of MacDonald’s testimony may have been true. Host Melinda Penkava looks back at the case, and the new wrinkle Britt brings to it, with Matthew Eisley, reporter at The News & Observer of Raleigh. (12:00)

House speaker Jim Black is under federal investigation, just months after the triumph of the new lottery bill which Black backed. Congressman Walter Jones of eastern North Carolina may lose his seat because of his early stand against the Iraq War. Host Melinda Penkava looks at the surprising turns of state politics in 2005. Guests include: Mike Munger, chair of the political science department at Duke University; Laura Leslie, capital reporter for North Carolina Public Radio; Jack Betts, associate editor at The Charlotte Observer; and Robert Orr, executive director of the North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law.
