NC GOP in NYC: Host Melinda Penkava talks with Jim Morrill, staff writer for the Charlotte Observer, about North Carolina’s presence at the Republican National Convention in New York. NC Senator Elizabeth Dole will speak at the convention on Tuesday night. Republican candidate for the US Senate Richard Burr will attend, along with gubernatorial candidate Patrick Ballantine. Jim Morrill has spent time with delegates from North Carolina, as well as North Carolinians who are there to protest. (12:00)

Poverty: New Census data shows that the number of Americans living in poverty has increased in the last year. North Carolina is among the states with the sharpest increase. Host Melinda Penkava talks with John Hood, President of the John Locke Foundation; and Elizabeth Jordan, Policy Analyst with the North Carolina Justice Center, about the federal definition of poverty and what the numbers mean for North Carolina. Triad Economy: Host Melinda Penkava speaks with Justin Catanoso, the Executive Editor of the Triad Business Journal, about the state of the economy in the region. The Triad, which includes Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point, has seen a tremendous loss of jobs in the textile, furniture, and tobacco industries, but has achieved some success in luring new business.
