Training Doctors

Every year, the medical schools of North Carolina graduate roughly 430 doctors. Years of grueling 80-hour weeks great many of these new doctors in residency programs, but is the system of training doctors outdated? Host Melinda Penkava speaks with Ed Halperin, the vice dean of the School of Medicine at Duke University; Allen Hamrick, the associate director of the Counseling and Psychological Services at UNC-Chapel Hill; Dr. Nortin Hadler, professor of Medicine and Microbiology/Immunology at UNC-Chapel Hill; and a third-year medical student, about educating and training doctors.
