Counter-Recruiting

Military recruitment numbers remain high in North Carolina, but they are dragging around the nation. That’s welcome news to anti-war activists, who have launched a national campaign to stop
young people from joining the military. Host Frank Stasio looks at what attracts young people to the military, and whether the military is a viable option at a time of war. Guests include: Army recruiters Major George McGrath and Lt. Col. Tom Christiansen; Garett Reppenhagen, an Iraq war veteran and associate director at the Alliance for Security in Washington, D.C.; and Pam Schwingl, a founder of North Carolina Choices, a group that promotes giving students alternatives to military service.
