North Carolina Abortion Laws and Access

In 2000, 37,610 women obtained abortions in North Carolina, but only 22 of the state’s 100 counties have a clinic that performs the procedure. Does every woman who wants an abortion have adequate access? Or should the state further regulate who can get one and how it can be paid for, particularly as it involves minors? Host Melinda Penkava looks at the state of abortion in North Carolina with: Barbara Holt, president of North Carolina Right to Life; Susan Hill, president of the Raleigh-based National Women’s Health Organization; and Rivka Gordon, physician’s assistant and director of the U.S. program for Ipas.
