Free Speech And Political Cartoons

Cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad published in a Danish newspaper in September, and republished in various European newspapers, continue to lead to violence around the world. North Carolinian Doug Marlette knows something about this type of controversy. In 2002, he created a cartoon titled “What Would Muhammad Drive.” Following its publication in the Tallahassee Democrat, he received 20,000 emails, and some death threats.
