Tobacco Buyout and History

The U.S. Senate voted on Monday for a $10-billlion buyout for tobacco farmers and quota holders. Host Melinda Penkava speaks with David Rice, reporter with the Winston-Salem Journal; Billy Yeargin, a tobacco historian who teaches Southern Culture at Duke University’s continuing education program; and Cynthia Hill, producer and director of the film “Tobacco Money Feeds My Family”, about the buyout and the rich history of tobacco farming in North Carolina.
