North Carolina Newspapers

North Carolina Newspapers: When Durham’s Herald-Sun newspaper was bought by Paxton Media Group last week, it left just one independently owned major metro in the state: the Fayetteville Observer. Host Melinda Penkava talks with the Herald-Sun’s new editor, Bob Ashley, about that paper’s direction. She also talks with Jock Lauterer, professor of journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School (“Community Journalism: the Personal Approach,” Iowa State University Press/1995); Phil Meyer, UNC-Chapel Hill professor of journalism (“The Vanishing Newspaper: Saving Journalism in the Information Age,” University of Missouri Press / 2004); and Ken Ripley, publisher of the Spring Hope Enterprise. Listener Call-In. (59:00)
