Re: Oral Latin/Greek

I'm not sure that my point is that G/T teachers are more open to mixing and matching, so much as that G/T teachers think of communicative methods as one option, not as a totally fundamental shift in how they ought to approach language teaching. It's also fair to say that the number of communicative ...

Re: Freney - Aspectual Substitution Verbal Change in New Testament Quotations of the Septuagint

Freney is indeed Australian based, though presumably this is his doctoral thesis turned into a monograph, which dissertation was completed in the US.

Re: Coining a phrase

You should not be using the verb λέγω, which should be translated pronounce. Instead the proper verb would be ονομάζω, to give a name to something. Honestly, I try to stay out of arguments for the sake of arguments, but I think Ed's comment is over-restrictive and over-prescriptive of the range of ...

Re: Luke 12:36 - Minuscule 157

I think some of the constituents of the substantivised phrases are somewhat longer than you highlighted, Stirling. In the material from Nyssa AE 3.7.41f: τὸ ποτὲ μὴ 3.7.42 εἶναι τὸ ποτὲ μὴ εἶναι τὸν κύριον It's not that τὸ ποτε can't function as the constituent, but that these tend to be set phrases...

Re: Gregory of Nyssa: Contra Eunomium

Hope the patristic reader materials are helpful! I stopped trying to work in that format, it became too labour-intensive for the small niche interest it was serving, and I decided it was better to try to work towards more machine-readable and data-rich versions of these kinds of things. Though the g...

Re: Gregory of Nyssa: Contra Eunomium

Half my doctoral dissertation was on Basil's CE. I've looked at portions of Gregory's too. Yes, as, you've surmised the Schaff translation is difficult to sync with Jaegar. The recent Brill translation is well done, and useful for clarifying points where Gregory is obscure. Gregory also strikes me, ...

Re: [Dickey] Group Progress

Not in the sense that a competent editor has deliberately and systematically reviewed it, no. But the whole project is essentially an Alpha release. And a work in progress. And open to input and corrections from anyone, so feel free to send me your own. But if you catch "bad Greek" from it...

Re: [Dickey] Group Progress

I'm just well behind in every aspect of my life :)

But I have the advantage of having done several chapters of this book already, so I'm hopeful of joining back in the fun soon.

Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 2, Preliminary Exercises

for the vocab, I would personally recommend taking her list, and typing things you personally need into a separate document, especially principal parts, since Dickey expects you to literally memorise all vocab with all principal parts each chapter. Reading whatever in CGCG that maps to the Smyth cha...
