Re: 2 Cor 4:4 the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ or the light of the glorious gospel of Christ?

I'd certainly read it as "glorious gospel." The word δόξα freqently functions in this way. For more information on this use of the genitive, see Wallace Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics §6.2.a.5 on Attributive Genitive (Hebrew Genitive, Genitive of Quality). The genitive substantive specifi...

Re: Errors in Mounce's Basics of Biblical Greek

I forgot to mention that what I wrote in my last post is based on the 3rd edition of Basics of Biblical Greek . I now understand that there is a 4th edition. Whether the errors pointed out in my post still appear in the latest edition I do not know. Also, I just realized that I had posted this thre...

Re: οἵτινες in Gal 2:4

What's being said is that οἵτινες is the plural of ὅστις . It is not a combination of the article ( οἱ ) and the indefinite pronoun ( τινες ). The article is definite, the indefinite pronoun is (well) indefinite. They do not go together. οἵτινες = "who, whoever, anyone" τινες = "certa...

Re: Google Custom Search for B-Greek

I wish there were a way to get a search to return both λογος and λόγος, with or without accents. The form needs to be exact, though.

Re: Participle in Matt. 27:55

I agree with Stirling about the meta-language. I don't think you are inventing it, but it's a bit much for us old guys who cut our teeth on traditional grammars. However I would say that the placement of ἐκεῖ so close to your thetic ἦσαν precludes the periphrastic understanding, and that narrows it...

Re: Is this a legitimate translation of Hebrews 1:8?

Since you linked to this from whatever stack exchange, I will say that I just checked both JPS 1917 and JPS 1985, and neither reads like you've stated here. Neither is the CJB (as I found through your links) worded that way. That wording is not in the "Complete Jewish Bible," as often refe...

Re: Articular?

I have read that if the article is not the word before, then the word is not articular. Is this correct? And would that mean that these are not considered articular? ὁ δὲ Θεὸς ὁ τε Θεὸς As Barry said, these postpositive particles regularly intervene between the article and its head noun. These are ...
