Re: 2 Cor 3:17

Thank you for your responses. I had not seen the article quoted by Jonathan Robie. I appreciate the references. I assumed that the term "convertible proposition" was accepted by the scholarly community because I saw that it was in use from the time of A. T. Robertson and it is still in use...

2 Cor 3:17

I was looking at 2 Cor 3:17: ὁ δὲ κύριος τὸ πνεῦμά ἐστιν·
Is there any reason why this would not be considered a convertible proposition?

Re: Gen 4:23

Sorry, I should have been clearer and stuck to the Greek. I was writing because I don’t generally accept the causal εἰς but it appeared that Genesis 4:23 might support that use. Accept for giving τραῦμα and μώλωπα a metaphorical meaning, Brenton translates this in a way that is closer to what I expe...

Gen 4:23

I was reading Genesis 4:23 and the usual English translation made me wonder if this was a passage that would support the “causal εἰς.”

Re: John 1 in Bodmer p66

Sorry, I misread. He says there is no punctuation in verse 3 here οὐδὲ ἕν. ὃ γέγονεν ἐν. I was thinking of another source that said there was no punctuation in the early manuscripts. Bruce Manning Metzger, United Bible Societies, A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament, Second Edition a Comp...

John 1 in Bodmer p66

I'm looking at John 1:1-3. Metzger specifically mentions the Bodmer manuscript does not have punctuation, but I note there are dots exactly where I expect some punctuation. If they aren't punctuation, what are they?
Sincerely,

Re: Richard Rhodes on Definiteness

My error. I must have miscopied when I made notes on Matthew and I didn't read the passage very carefully before posting.

Re: Richard Rhodes on Definiteness

Stephen Carlson wrote: "Well, Greek is not Hebrew, but it does sort of have something similar, called Apollonius's Canon. But there are many exceptions, and I haven't seen a contemporary treatment of the canon and its many exceptions from an identifiability standpoint." I wasn't implying t...

Re: Richard Rhodes on Definiteness

This may not be relevant because I have not read Rhodes, but there is a reason why Matthew says Peter cut off the ear. Hebrew normally assumes that a possessive matches the definiteness of both nouns when they are in a construct state. The Old Testament works around this when only one is definite by...

Re: Genesis 34:3

You said, "The problem your having is probably caused by a misreading of the narrative. You are imposing a sequential linear framework on something which didn't necessarily happen that way. καὶ προσέσχεν τῇ ψυχῇ Δινας describes a scenario in which Συχεμ was considering Δινας τῆς θυγατρὸς Ιακωβ ...
