Re: Historical and Theological Lexicon of the Septuagint: Volume I: Alpha – Gamma
Very nice work. If anyone has access to the article on βιάζεται, there would be great joy and thankfulness if a picture or Academia.edu download could be posted!

Does an accusative 'mean' this much?
Matt. 5:6 μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες καὶ διψῶντες τὴν δικαιοσύνην, ὅτι αὐτοὶ χορτασθήσονται. James Boice comments that an accusative adds quite a strong amount of meaning... "The significance of this point for interpreting the fourth beatitude lies in the fact that the normal Greek usage is entirely...

Online Conversational Course?
This is a follow on question from a comment Barry H. made about having been helped by an online conversational class which was only for an hour a week. I'm interested in something like that and wondered if there are any current or soon to be held. Especially I would like to ask all those with such e...

Re: In Acts 13:48 why the [effective] pluperfect?
Acts 13:48 ἀκούοντα δὲ τὰ ἔθνη ἔχαιρον καὶ ἐδόξαζον τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ ἐπίστευσαν ὅσοι ἦσαν τεταγμένοι εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον· From what I have read using a perfect links the effect to the event described. Is that what you mean, Mike, when using the word "persistent' or are you referring to some...

News in Ancient Greek
I've been having fun with these news articles. It is a nice additional way of internalising basic sentence structures and vocabulary. Since we generally already know these news topics, it is easier to work with the context and intuit the meaning of unfamiliar words.

online Basil the Great Oration on the Holy Spirit
Χαιρε. I could not find Basil's "On the Holy Spirit" on TLG or anywhere else. I managed to find a Modern Greek version. Does anyone know of a link to a (preferably) unicode original Greek text? Many thanks...

Re: Translating Origen's harder section
Thanks Stirling here it is as a reflexive and the infinive (English-ed as a gerund). Barry saw the genitive in the second sentence as "of comparison' So putting together the two sentences this is what I come up with. What do you think? Φαμὲν τὸ μικρότερον περὶ αὐτοῦ λέγειν τοῦ Χριστοῦ· (19) μικ...

Re: Translating Origen's harder section
Thanks for these helps which led me back to my dusty Intermediate Greek grammars. I've never tried to work through Origen before, but he seems to be more difficult than most. I'm still not sure if I understand the sentence correctly: Τὸ δὲ, ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν, δηλοῖ ( ἐντοῖς πνευματικοῖς, κα...

Re: Translating Origen's harder section
Thanks for the points of grammar I missed. The way I understand is: Φαμὲν τὸ μικρότερον περὶ αὐτοῦ λέγειν τοῦ Χριστοῦ· We say ‘the least’ is speaking of him (who is) of Christ. Is that right?. I am still especially puzzled by the structure in (20) and have made another attempt. Does this make more s...
