Re: The meaning of ὁρίζω in Romans 1:4
Still noodling on this ... I think this refers to three distinct times: εἰς εὐαγγέλιον θεοῦ ὃ προεπηγγείλατο διὰ τῶν προφητῶν αὐτοῦ ἐν γραφαῖς ἁγίαις περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, τοῦ γενομένου ἐκ σπέρματος Δαυὶδ κατὰ σάρκα, τοῦ ὁρισθέντος υἱοῦ θεοῦ ἐν δυνάμει κατὰ πνεῦμα ἁγιωσύνης ἐξ ἀναστάσεως νεκρῶν The t...

Re: The meaning of ὁρίζω in Romans 1:4
Dear fellow B-Greekers, I’m currently wrestling with the semantic range of ὁρίζω in Romans 1:4 (τοῦ ὁρισθέντος υἱοῦ θεοῦ ἐν δυνάμει), particularly in light of various translations and interpretations—most notably N.T. Wright’s rendering: “who was marked out powerfully as God’s son.” Wright appears ...

Re: ὑπερβυτεροι
Fascinating. As far as I can tell, ὑπερβυτεροι does not occur in any lexicon, not even in Evangelinos Apostolides Sophocles' Greek Lexicon of the Roman and Byzantine Periods (from B.C. 146 to A.D. 1100), which often contains words not described elsewhere. I haven't been able to find that word in use...

Re: Contract verbs with η
I’m currently reading Merkle and Plummer’s Beginning Greek book and on the chapter about Contract Verbs. I’ve read the chapter and watched the videos, but I’m confused on a point. Mounce’s 7 rules for contract verbs that he references cover most cases, but don’t seem to cover the case when the verb...

Re: if your brother offends you personally, you must forgive him.

Re: if your brother offends you personally, you must forgive him.
Αν ο αδελφός σας σας έχει προσβάλει προσωπικά, πρέπει να τον συγχωρήσετε. Η συγχώρεση είναι το κλειδί για την ειρήνη και την αποκατάσταση των σχέσεων. Ο Χριστός μας δίδαξε να συγχωρούμε ο ένας τον άλλον, όπως Αυτός μας συγχωρεί. That's modern Greek, and it seems to be about forgiveness in general, ...

Re: Question about Verb Tense in Koine.
Part of what is hard to grasp about this difference is really more about the different ways of describing this than the way the language works. When grammarians say the aorist presents an action "viewed as a whole," they mean the action is seen from the outside , without focusing on its in...

Re: Question about Verb Tense in Koine.
Could someone clarify the subtle differences in nuance between the aorist and imperfect tense in a specific passage of Koine Greek? Oversimplifying just a little: The aorist sees the action completed (like a whole event at once), the imperfect sees it while it is happening (like an action in progre...

Re: Can't think of a Koinē NT equivalent to this...
It's amazing how one dedicated effort like that can make such a big impact. I agree — having something so comprehensive for the NT would be incredible. By the way, projects that make sacred texts accessible remind me of a similar effort with the Qur'an, like this Surah Yaseen pdf resource here — cl...
