Thomas, You wrote: In a translation of the Greek text of the Gospel of John which I have, the translator gives an explanation of the use of the present imperative “ἔγειρε”. Re: The meaning of ὁρίζω in Romans 1:4
I am interested in the meaning of ὁρισθέντος. It is found 8 times in the New Testament. The other verses are: Luke 22:22; Acts 2:23; 10:42; 11:29; 17:26, 31; Hebrews 4:7.
"declared" is fine as long as you are aware its sense in English is "declared to be."

Re: Parsing resources and "next steps"
Gabe, I may be a little different here but my suggestion would be to forget NT Greek. Devote all your time to Classical Greek. This will lay a foundation for every aspect of NT Greek, such as grammar, syntax, etymology, etc. You need not master Classical Greek, but a few years studying it will reall...

Re: Ephesians 5:25
I gave the rationale in summary in my first post. Here are the groups being addressed: αι γυναικες… οι ανδρες… τα τεκνα… οι πατερες… οι δουλοι… και οι κυριοι Is someone suggesting that the group headings are the points of emphases? By that I mean it is being argued that each of the categories is the...

Re: Ephesians 5:25
οἱ ἄνδρες ἀγαπᾶτε τὰς γυναῖκας
I would English this
Love your wives, husbands.
The emphasis is on ἀγαπᾶτε (contrasted with the other commands) while ἄνδρες is simply a header of sorts; it names the category to which this command applies.

Sorry about that emoticon. Not sure how it changed from a simple smiley face. :0 )
