Re: τίς in Titus 1:6
Sounds like a translation question. The Greek indefinite makes an animate (τις) -- inanimate (τι) distinction, which isn't gendered on masculine or feminine lines (same as English 'someone' 'anyone'). In context, it is in apposition to ἀνήρ, so the indefinite could be rendered "any man" bu...

Re: ἐκ λύπης 2 Corinthians 9:7
True, I see Greek as a code to be translated, yet in this thread including the BDAG lexical entry, I see no support for leaping from pain to reluctant or grudging, although it is a small leap. Well, the support for "reluctantly" is listed in the BDAG entry: ἐκ λύπης reluctantly 2 Cor 9:7 ...

Re: Pre-Verbal Predicate Nominative
Wallace, Greek Grammar p.261, points out that one cannot determine whether a noun is qualitative or indefinite/definite merely by looking at its translation into English. This comment was made in his criticism of Colwell who assumed that predicates with "a(n)" before the noun were indefini...

Re: Verb aspect debate outside of Koine
No, there has not been a verbal aspect debate among classicists and some of them have looked in horror upon what some Koine scholars have been doing. For example, there is a scathing review of Porter by Ruijgh in French on this (Mnemosyne, Fourth Series, Vol. 48, Fasc. 3, June 1995, pp. 352-366). M...
