Re: Translating a Second Temple Aramaic text into Greek

Greek per se I think better to use straight verb (aorist or perfect) after πῶς ie. ἐξηράνθη ἀποπίπτω...ἀπό instead of πίπτω (aorist or perfect) εἰ μὴ not εἰ οὐκ not ζῆλος. ζωτικός perhaps, or ὑγρός... depending on the orig text and your interpretative leeway good Greek Hard to say what's good. Gram...

Re: Translating a Second Temple Aramaic text into Greek

For those who are interested, the Aramaic is as follows (taken from The Dead Sea Scrolls Study Edition, 4Q201 column 2 lines 4-6):

חזו דכל אילניה כלהן מיבישין ברא מן ארבעת עסר אילנין דעליהן מתקימין עד דתרתין ותלת שנין יעברן

Translating a Second Temple Aramaic text into Greek

In the Greek of 1 Enoch, the scribe skipped over chapter 3 (which is just one verse). Since this section has not been preserved in Greek, but the Dead Sea Scrolls preserve this section, and assuming the Greek was translated from the Aramaic, I was trying to translate the Aramaic into Greek here to s...

A list of all forms of the participle?

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the forms of the participle inflections? It would be nice to have charts of all possible participle forms to refer to.

Jude 1:15

καὶ περὶ πάντων τῶν σκληρῶν ὧν ἐλάλησαν κατ’ αὐτοῦ ἁμαρτωλοὶ ἀσεβεῖς. I notice that NET translates the underlined part as "the ungodly sinners". Logos says αμαρτωλος is an adjective. Can it be taken as "ungodly sinfulness"? It seems "sinfulness" would fit better for an ...

απτω

I've often seen απτω given as meaning "to fasten to; hence , to fire, kindle...". The two basic concepts that this word can mean seem to be very different. Is there is a way to understand this culturally? Did the Greeks "fasten" material to something in order to light it, which i...

Subtle differences between paired Greek words

Χαίρετε, I've been very vexed by certain Greek words that are given the exact same or similar glosses. I understand that it is possible to have two different words mean essentially the exact same thing in a language. I'm okay with that and I can live with it (though it kind of irks me). This concept...

εθελω vs θελω

So apparently θελω can be in the present tense as εθελω. I'm wondering why we have this difference and if there is a difference in meaning? Does adding an augment do anything else besides change tense? The sources I've checked (BDAG and others) seem to suggest that both words have the exact same mea...
