Re: greetings
I'm james bell. I began studying greek on my own two years ago in response to a question I could not answer; whether the comma in Luke 23:43 should be before or after the today. I still cannot answer that from the greek. I worked through about five beginning grammar books, difficulties noted that t...

Re: Greetings!
Hello everyone. :) My name is Brooke. In the next couple weeks I am finishing second-year New Testament Greek at my Christian college. I really want to keep up with Greek and get to a place where I can comfortably read the Bible in Greek. Does anyone have suggestions about what steps I should take ...

Re: More flashcards?
After about the first year, I started reading the GNT for myself (with the aid of Grosvernor and Zerwick). As I read a passage I made a note of the words I didn't know, wrote out the meaning and any relevant etymology. I keep the notes in 3-ring binders, then they're there when I read the passage ag...

Re: "I want to be able to SMOOTHLY read the newspaper in Koi
Let's be realistic about this. And let's not mix apples and oranges. I want to be able to read a newspaper smoothly in Modern Greek - and have conversations in Modern Greek. I want to be able to read the New Testament (and later the LXX) smoothly in koine. And not just read the GNT, but let it "...

Re: Modern Greek verses Koine Greek John 1:1
A point to remember is that the New World Translation is produced by the Jehovah's Witnesses (there may be an agenda there) Also the Nominative definite article with a copula in Greek normally indicates the subject. So ὁ λογος should be translated as the subject, and θεος as predicate nominative &qu...

Re: Has anybody used Dobson for teaching a class?
Thanks for the input about accents - it's something I think about from time to time, but my students seem to cope OK without them. I do plenty of reading with them in class, and we use accented GNTs, so they seem to pick up a natural reading that way. I do give accented forms in the vocabulary lists...
