Re: 1 Cor. 15:8 — Paul and the abortion

a premature birth (Aristotel) Is there a way to find this actual reference? I found a reference to this here: S. Ignatius. S. Polycarp: Revised Texts with Instructions, Notes, Dissertations, and Translations. The notes list a reference to Aristotle's use, in one case at any rate, and other instance...

Re: 1 Cor. 15:8 — Paul and the abortion

ἔσχατον δὲ πάντων ὡσπερεὶ τῷ ἐκτρώματι ὤφθη κἀμοί. (1Co 15:8 BGT) And last of all, as like to the abortion, he appeared also to me. The word ἐκτρώματι generally does seem to be used for a baby that dies more than a baby that is born in a strange way. To try to make it make sense many translators co...

S Walch wrote: August 30th, 2021, 9:58 am Oh - didn't realise that!

Could the font size be increased a bit? Currently on 110% - 130% shows it nicer :)

Guess I could do a custom CSS on my browser for this site...
you can wrap it in a size tag

אֶת

so size=200 is a bit large. maybe 130 ?

אֶת

Thx

Matt 1:2 Ἀβραὰμ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἰσαάκ, Ἰσαὰκ δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἰακώβ, Ἰακὼβ δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἰούδαν καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ, I recall suggestions that the article is case marking indeclinable names, but (a) note that Ἰούδαν does not need case marking and (b) why isn't the nominative case-marked as wel...

Re: Another new guy, with a question

Hi Leam, Have a look at BLC (https://www.biblicallanguagecenter.com/). They do online (via zoom) conversational Koine Greek and Hebrew. And they do the Koine version of "Hello, my name is <>, what's your's? I am a <>, what do you do?" and so on. I've done the first three Greek with them an...

This has now been published (on e-book). I have a copy of the paper version ordered so might post some interesting quotes from it when I get it so folks have a feel for what sort of position is being taken on things https://brill.com/view/title/60248?rskey=WZ8K7l&result=81 You can read the pref...

Re: perfect participle in Acts 13:48

Daniel et al., Here is a link to an article by Levinsohn that notes the mismatches between the English and Greek perfect, among other things. His abstract provides a great summary of the claims. https://benjamins.com/catalog/cilt.352.18lev Regarding the straight perfect vs. a periphrastic version, ...

Re: perfect participle in Acts 13:48

I agree with Barry that it's adjectival. And really, the sentence gives it away. Who believed? ὅσοι ἦσαν τεταγμένοι (εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον). That describes the people who believed, ἦσαν τεταγμένοι is part of that description. What is the time relationship between ἦσαν τεταγμένοι and ἐπίστευσαν? This des...

Re: perfect participle in Acts 13:48

I really haven't studied the periphrastic constructions with the participle nearly enough, but isn't this essentially a pluperfect in periphrastic form ? And thus aren't you really constrained to see this as being antecedent to belief, because you have a speaker describing events, when the belief h...

Re: Biblical Greek Dictionary and Parsing Practice App (iOS)

I think it should be possible to auto-generate all of the endings and accents that are missing, Im just not quite at the point where I can do that with confidence. (Thus the compromise with the alternate colour for generated endings) Being a coder myself I hear you on the legalities of scraping. Fo...
