Footnote by D. Wallace's GGBB

Post by Alan Patterson »

On page 39, the following footnote is given:

8 "In our analysis of the oblique cases (i.e., gen., dat., acc.) we will note these verb types as well."

The footnote footnotes the obvious conclusion that the Pred Nom, which can only occur with the equative verb, will occur far less than a Subj will, since the Subj can occur with all three verbs (Intrans, Trans, Equative).

Is this saying that a genitive, as an example, will occur with certain verb types?

Yes, but unfortunately, Wallace really doesn't deal particularly well with how case interacts with particular classes of verbs beyond the obvious ones such as his subjective/objective example or the use of genitive objects with ἀκούω.
