Default Verb Form in Greek Aspect

Post by Scott Lawson »

How are unmarked verb forms determined when considering aspect? In narratives the aorist is the default form. Is the narrative default form how we determine markedness? Or is it by individual usage of verbs? That is a particular verb is usually used in the present tense form and so when we see it used in the aorist or perfect that we question why it was used and whether or not the writer was making something visible by the aspect? I hope my question makes sense.

By usage. Aorist are the preferred form for moving the narrative forward.
