unicode with windows 7

Post by SusanJeffers »

My old XP computer had a little button down in the tray that I could click on to switch between English (United States) and Greek Polytonic. I think at one time it also had Hebrew, but that disappeared at some point. When I would click on Greek Polytonic my typing would come up in Greek, and when I was done typing Greek I could switch back to English. I gather that the Greek I typed could be read by just about anyone with a fairly modern computer, even without their having to install fonts. I take it this functionality is called "unicode" and it's what b-greek is using now too.

How do I get my new Windows 7 computer to do something similar? Or, how do I get to where I can type in unicode in Windows 7?

Thanks!

The installation of language keyboards is essentially the same in Windows 7 as it was with XP. Logos has a set of utilities you can download with excellent documentation that you might find helpful:

You're looking for the "Change Keyboards" button on the "Keyboards and Languages" tab of the "Region and Language" Control Panel window.
To get there:
  • Click the Start button, type "keyboard input", and press Enter.
  • Click "Change Keyboards"
  • Click "Add"
  • Put a check mark beside the Language and Keyboard Layouts you want to add.
  • Click OK, OK, OK.
