Defining Christian 'disciple-making' το μαθητευειν from a purely lexical-contextual perspective.

Post by KeithSpeve »

Is the modern understanding of "disciple-making" in Christianity truly reflective of the original Greek term το μαθητευειν, or have cultural and theological interpretations skewed its meaning over time? How can a purely lexical-contextual analysis help us better grasp the essence of this crucial aspect of Christian faith and practice?

The four occurrences of this verb in the NT are all very brief. They offer no insights that I can detect into an instruction manual of any kind, recommending procedures to be followed or warning of pitfalls to be avoided. What do you suggest as a starting point for your proposed lexical-contextual analysis?
