I saw this message posted to his Facebook account:
It is with heavy hearts that we want to let people know that Barry has fought hard against a cancer diagnosis for the last year, but is now in Hospice and will soon be in the hands of our precious Savior.

He is at peace, comfortable, and full of love. He thanks you all for your friendship and for all of your thoughts and prayers during this time.

-The Hofstetter Family
Please keep Barry and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

In case a family member can read this note of gratitude and appreciation to Barry:I have benefitted greatly from your excellent help with questions I've posted over the years. Barry, you've had a cheerful and humorous attitude to go with your astute Greek observations. Looking forward to the day we'll all be enjoying God together in eternity. My prayers go out to you and your family who will be missing you.

Through the intercessions of St. Panteleimon and St. Luke, Lord have mercy!

:(

Having discussed many things with Barry over the years, I'm gravely saddened by this news. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Barry met with me for a time to help me with Josephus, as with the others here I am saddened by this news. Thanks for letting us know

Barry has been full of wisdom, knowledge, and grace here on B-Greek. I am very sad to hear this news, but I am confident that he is in good hands.

He has blessed so many people with his generous help and expertise.

I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of hours a week with Barry throughout the Covid period, as I was learning Latin through LLPSI and Wheelock and Zoom made online conferencing so simple. He was always of a cheerful disposition, even when he told me about his struggle with sickness. I didn't imagine that it would go this far and held out hope that he would be able to conquer it. He's always been clear-minded and kind, even when we were interacting with some downright malicious people on other less-academically-oriented online forums (specifically, CARM). I will definitely miss him.

Barry has always been special, and he will be missed.
Our interactions go back about 15 years on the Which Version email forum.

It is sad, and with a heavy heart, that we hear this news.

Blessings to Barry and the family and friends, in Jesus name.
