Conjugation of μεταβαίνω: (particularly) Μετάβηθι

How can I best learn the paradigms of nouns and verbs and the other inflected parts of speech?

Conjugation of μεταβαίνω: (particularly) Μετάβηθι

Post by PhillipLebsack »

I'm not concerned with the meaning of this word in the context of where it occurs. I think that it is very understandable once you realize its parsing. I'm concerned with how it is conjugated/inflected to become Μετάβηθι...

What in Μετάβηθι makes it Aor Act Imp 2nd Sing? When I first saw this I knew it was from μεταβαίνω... But I couldn't figure out how to parse it. It's a strange word.

Also, if there is a paradigm/conjugation for μεταβαίνω, or any other words that end in -βαίνω out there, I would appreciate you sharing.

βαίνω and its derivatives are so-called "2nd aorists". They're part of an older group of verbs whose morphology distinguishes aspect on the basis of stem changes rather than inflectional morphology.

Kalos Beautiful Greek Software is what I go to for things like this. Here you'll see the form βᾶθι... Either Kalos is wrong (as it is sometimes) or this is an older form of βῆθι.
