Articular?

Post by mmorris »

I have read that if the article is not the word before, then the word is not articular. Is this correct? And would that mean that these are not considered articular?

ὁ δὲ Θεὸς

ὁ τε Θεὸς

Of course they are articular. Particles don't interrupt the sequence. You can also intervene adjectives, adverbs and yet other words to form articular phrases. So whatever you read, as you have phrased it, is wrong.

ὁ δὲ Θεὸς

ὁ τε Θεὸς
As Barry said, these postpositive particles regularly intervene between the article and its head noun. These are clearly articular phrases.

Do you remember where you read this? Because it’s wrong.

Thanks everyone. I can’t remember where I read it. It’s possible I may have just misunderstood. It may have said it must be adjacent, but technically that would not be adjacent.
