Hymn to Aphrodite

Post by James Ernest »

What's that rho in the fourth line?

I’d assume that it’s from the following, taken from BrillDAG:
ῥᾰ epic and lyr. encl. partic., see ἄρα | in trag. (lyr.) ἦ ῥα certainly AESCHL. Pers. 633 SOPH. Ai. 172; ἤ ῥα SOPH. Ai. 177.
It’s enclitic, which would also explain why the accent on αἵ is acute (αἵ ῥα → αἵ ῥ᾿).

Thank you! I think you got it.
I've been reading only NT and later Christian Greek for too long . . .
