Margaret Lansing Schopler, “Miggieâ€, daughter of Egyptologist Dows and Marion Dunham, died July 16th, 2007 (aged 82). Born June 17, 1925 in Egypt, she was a long-time Chapel Hill resident.
Miggie enjoyed painting with watercolors and making sketches, she was an avid gardener and was to be president of the Chapel Hill Kiwanis Club in the coming year.
She spent her professional career working with children with autism at UNC’s division TEACCH. She supported her husband Eric Schopler for 35 years, helping to make a major impact on the diagnosis, treatment and care of autistic children.
Survived by first husband, Cornelius Lansing; daughter, Jennifer Stever; son William Lansing; stepchildren, Susan, Robert, and Thomas Schopler; grandchildren, Jesse Stever, Megan Darnaby; great- grandchildren, Victoria, and Madelynn; extended Schopler/Renkow family, Scott, Samuel, Eric, Rosie, Timothy, Daniel, and Justin; and her trusted companion “Bingo†the border collie.
