Supporting Cook, Ryan
We have a choice in this upcoming election for positive change for Carrboro. That is why we support Katrina Ryan and Sharon Cook for aldermen. Katrina and Sharon will protect Carrboro’s identity while promoting sane and reasonable growth. Preservation of our natural environment and the safety of our communities are important issues to Katrina and Sharon. Among other numerous accomplishments, both have worked hard to improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians in Carrboro. They have been successful in securing sidewalks, smart traffic lights and bikeways along Homestead Road. As neighbors, we have witnessed the devotion Katrina and Sharon have to both their neighborhood and the larger community.
Please join us in voting for Katrina Ryan and Sharon Cook for Carrboro aldermen.

Supporting Lavelle, Broun
I have had the great pleasure of working with Lydia Lavelle on Carrboro’s planning board. She takes a patient, scholarly and professional approach to the complex issues that come before us. She brings strong community values and ecological awareness to the task at a time when we are greatly challenged to create a sustainable urban fabric that will serve our children and grandchildren in the future as well as it serves us today.
Joal Broun has always been and, I am confident, will continue to be a strong voice for a diverse and walkable community that must become more affordable. I have long appreciated her humor and outspoken views. Most important to me is her recognition that land use patterns in Carrboro need to change in order for more of our residents to be able to work in Carrboro and for more of the people who work here to be able to live here.
Lydia Lavelle will be a highly-qualified addition to the board of aldermen and I am happy to continue supporting Joal Broun’s generous and compassionate service to our community.

Elect Cook, Ryan, Voyce
I am one of the few people that live and work in Carrboro. I am happy to be able to both work and live in the same town. However; doing business in Carrboro is not easy. It is difficult to get to, office space is limited and I often find myself driving out of town for shopping and services.
In order to encourage people to live and work in Carrboro, we need to elect people who will handle our growth responsibly. Growing requires change.
Carrboro needs diversification. We need a diverse tax base, diversified housing and a diversified government. I encourage all Carrboro residents — especially resident business owners — to vote for Sharon Cook, Katrina Ryan and Brian Voyce on November 6th.

Supporting Cook
Sharon Cook has actively served our community for 10 years and we have benefited from her efforts. She is currently seeking to serve on the Carrboro Board of Aldermen to make an even greater positive impact on our community. Sharon is a member of the Carrboro Town Planning Board and their representative to the Greenways Commission. She has participated in the Carrboro northern study area community forum. She is informed and actively involved in issues facing our community. She is approachable and regularly communicates with neighbors to keep them abreast of the issues.
Sharon is concerned about the welfare of our children and others. In 2003, she led a grassroots effort to improve student safety near CHHS. She was the Orange County representative to the Homestead and High School Road Safety Task Force. She has advocated for pedestrian and bicyclist safety by securing sidewalks, traffic lights and bikeways along Homestead Road.
She is a member of the Friends of Bolin Creek and will work to preserve and protect our environment. She has worked to identify areas for conservation and believes that Bolin Creek needs to be further protected by limiting the density of developments on the creek and the added roadways that go along with them. She is committed to implementing a bicycle and pedestrian pathway from Twin Creeks Park along the Bolin Creek corridor to connect with the Chapel Hill Greenway at Estes Drive Extension.
Sharon will work to keep Carrboro affordable. Our aldermen need to be better stewards of our revenues and find ways to use town dollars more efficiently and effectively! Sharon will work to modify current zoning to include commercial development in order to balance existing residential development with businesses, especially in northern Carrboro, and to increase the commercial tax base.
Sharon Cook cares for Carrboro! Vote for her on November 6 and help to effect a positive change for Carrboro!

Supporting Coleman
I enthusiastically support Dan Coleman for Carrboro alderman.
In 20 years as a community activist, Dan has demonstrated an impressive ability to study the issues and press for change with a view toward the long term. On the board of aldermen, he has earned a reputation as a well-prepared, thoughtful alderman who comes to every discussion with an open mind and a genuine interest in widespread community participation.
Dan’s own participation has been extensive, from serving on housing and transportation advisory boards to organizing living wage and civil liberties campaigns. Dan understands that economic development, environmental protection and social justice are interconnected, and he supports thoughtful development that relies on the creativity of Carrboro’s residents. Dan knows that smart approaches to issues like expanding the commercial tax base require us to take our time and get things right.
Please join me in voting for Dan Coleman on November 6.

Supporting Coleman
I first met Alderman Dan Coleman in 1989 when we worked together to elect Jacquelyn Gist and Mike Nelson to the board of aldermen. His strong love for the town of Carrboro has motivated him to be involved in local politics over the past three decades and recently motivated him to put himself forward as a candidate for the board of alderman. Dan is an out-of-the-box thinker who has wrestled for a long time with the issues of sustainability and how to maintain and enhance the things that make Carrboro a fun and stimulating place to live. Please join me in supporting him this election.
