Mrs. Ruth Hodges Sluder, formerly of Chapel Hill, died Monday, December 15, at Guardian Care of Elizabeth City, after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Sluder was born in Spartanburg, SC. and raised in Asheville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Frank Hodges, Sr. And Belle Anne Patton Hodges. Mrs. Sluder was previously employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield for many years and loved her many co-workers there. Later in life she was a homemaker. Mrs. Sluder was a member of First Baptist Church of Chapel Hill were she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was the organizer for many Wednesday night suppers. Mrs. Sluder was a member of the University Women’s Club and the Dental Faculty Wives. She was involved in many fund raisers and also very active in political events. Her hobbies included playing Bridge , making pottery, sewing , and crochet.
Mrs. Sluder is survived by her husband, Dr. Troy B. Sluder, Jr. , of Chapel Hill; one son, Dr. Troy B. Sluder III and wife Lyubov G. Of Manteo, NC ; a grandson Barron Troy Sluder ; a brother Raymond Frank Hodges, Jr. And wife Evelyn Cox Hodges of Candler, NC .
The funeral service for Mrs. Sluder will be held on Friday, December 19, at 3:00 p.m. at Walker’s Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday prior to the services at the funeral home.
