What sets our community apart is our sense of civic engagement, imagining and implementing innovative ways to meet community needs, empowering people, placing a primacy on social justice and fairness and valuing our diversity. That’s why I choose to live here.
That’s why I am grateful that Mark Dorosin is running for Orange County commissioner representing District 1, the greater Chapel Hill and Carrboro area.
One of the themes of Mark’s campaign is “A fair county and a county fair.” He wants economic development that puts the people of the county first and keeps the money local. If Amendment One passes he will seek to direct the county to continue to recognize domestic partnerships. And he wants to develop a county fair to celebrate our diversity, music, arts and local foods communities.
We’re lucky to have Mark. He is a father of three children in the public schools, a former Carrboro alderman and local business owner, and currently the managing attorney at the UNC Center for Civil Rights. I can see why the editors of the Independent Weekly recently wrote in endorsing Mark, “If we invented our ideal candidate for this office, his or her résumé would look similar to Dorosin’s.”
What impresses me most about Mark is his sense of wanting to make participation in local government meaningful and even fun and inspiring for people. I don’t know what more we could ask for.
Join me in voting for Mark Dorosin.
