More than 500 people helped recycle 35,000 pounds of confidential papers at two Shred-a-thon events hosted by the Orange County Solid Waste Department on April 22 and May 1.
The Chapel Hill Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the events, while the State Attorney General’s office distributed information on preventing identity theft.
The shred-a-thons are intended to help people safely and securely dispose of confidential paper to prevent identity theft. The next shred-a-thon is scheduled for Oct. 6 at University Mall.
