W. Toy Cheek, 81, of Chapel Hill, N.C. passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Toy was the son of the late Marvin M. and Mae Merritt Cheek. He retired after working for Long Meadow Dairy and Cheek’s Dairy Service for over 40 years. He also was an avid farmer who raised beef cattle. He was a lifetime member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and caretaker of the cemetery. Toy was active with the Orange County Cattleman’s Association and was on the Carrboro Planning Board for many years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a loving brother, uncle and good neighbor.
Toy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Bowden Cheek; two daughters, Becky Meadows and husband, Tommy, of Rougemont and Donna Quay and husband, John, of Chapel Hill; one brother, Milton Cheek and wife, Catherine, of Chapel Hill; one sister, Christine C. Lloyd of Chapel Hill; four grandchildren, Lisa Baird (Travis), Thomas Meadows (Sarah), Anthony Benson and Amy Keeter (Stephen); two great-grandchildren, Makala Marlow and Emmitt Keeter. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
