The 21st annual Haw River Learning Celebration started this week and runs through Oct. 8 along the banks of the Haw River.
The solar-powered, traveling environmental-education extravaganza is aimed at helping fourth-graders from all over the Haw River watershed area discover the wonders of nature along the river. Nearly 1,500 students from the six counties the river connects will take a field trip from school to learn about waste reduction, solar energy and the geography and ecology of their neighborhoods.
This week, the event was held in Bynum. The Learning Celebration travels to Saxapahaw next week, then to Guilrock for the final week.
