Kudos to the Sierra Club for its astute endorsements of Bernadette Pelissier for Orange County Commissioner and Ellie Kinnaird for re-election to the state Senate.
Bernadette’s environmental credentials are top notch, as are her qualifications as a member of the county Planning Board, the OWASA board and Chancellor Moeser’s Leadership Advisory Committee. Her long career with the Bureau of Prisons gives her a first-hand sense of the challenges and adversity faced by many in our society.
Senator Kinnaird is one of only two senators to receive a 100 percent voting score from the Conservation Council of North Carolina. Her leadership on issues ranging from hog waste regulation to the death penalty moratorium to establishing one-stop early voting is exemplary. Kinnaird’s compassion is evidenced through her outspoken support of the real estate transfer tax as a means to protect low-income and fixed-income residents.
Environmental leaders, to be sure, Pelissier and Kinnaird have the strength of character, the issue positions and the experience to do the job for our community.
