For Kinnaird
It’s unfortunate that we must choose between two fine public servants, Ellie Kinnaird and Moses Carey. Both have served us well for many years. Both are willing to raise controversial issues. Both are Democrats with liberal leanings. I missed their debate, but I heard it wasn’t much of a debate because they agree on most of the issues. It’s unfortunate that this race not only divides our community, but I see where it has divided households too. So how will you make your decision if you haven’t already? For me the choice is clear. I grew up with Ellie’s sons and much later I watched Ellie as mayor of Carrboro help shape it into the vibrant, unusual town that it has become today. There are many reasons Carrboro is a great place to live. Ellie Kinnaird is one of them.
Yesterday I spoke to a friend who is still undecided. He asked me if Ellie stepping aside at the beginning of the race didn’t indicate that she was ready to retire. I explained that Ellie stepped aside with the hope of another woman running to fill her seat. Did you know that only eight of the 100 legislators are women? Two of the eight will not return, and if Ellie or another woman from our district is not elected there will only be five out of 100. When no other woman came forward, Ellie rejoined the race. If Ellie can withstand the rigors of campaigning, she can certainly give us two more years in the Senate. Please join me in voting for Ellie.

For Kinnaird and Pelissier
Ellie Kinnaird is a stalwart leader and voice for her constituents. Ellie pioneered key legislation on social justice, immigration, and mental health, as a model steward of the environment and in voting and campaign-finance reform. Ellie embodies practices of exemplary leadership. Ellie inspires shared vision, challenges the process, encourages the heart and enables others to act. Seize the initiative, make challenge meaningful. Vote for Ellie!
I have worked with Bernadette Pelissier since the 2006 Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Madison, Wisconsin Inter-city visit. A diverse group of 102 community and county leaders visited Madison. Serving on the Community Leadership Council for the visit, Bernadette led the sustainable-future intercity-visitation workgroup. With Bernadette’s leadership, this workgroup closely examined the interdependency of community, economy and environment. Bernadette has consistently demonstrated clear understanding of the interlaced needs, problems, opportunities and solutions we share locally, countywide and regionally, as evidenced through her work on the Community Leadership Council, OWASA, the Orange County Planning Board and the Triangle-wide Special Transit Advisory Committee. Bernadette is a solid leader with heart, wisdom and experience. Join me in voting for Bernadette for Orange County commissioner.
