She was born in Sanford on December 24, 1924, the middle child of James Spencer and Grace Mann Truitt. After a career in the civil service in Panama, she married William Insch of Tulsa, Oklahoma, who preceded her in death in 1996. She worked at Summit School for over twenty years and was a member of the Unitarian Fellowship of Winston-Salem. She found her greatest joy and peace at the beach. She was always interested in civic affairs and had a great intellectual curiosity about the world.
In addition to her three children, she is survived by four grandchildren: Drew and Sarah Insch of Memphis and Will and Julia Pelletier of Chapel Hill. A memorial service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the Community Church of Chapel Hill, 106 Purefoy Road, Chapel Hill. “They are with us still.
