Gloria Jean Neville, of Chapel Hill, N.C., died Friday morning, Nov. 20 at Meadowlands Hospice in Hillsborough, N.C. Gloria Jean was born Aug. 15, 1946, in Suffolk, Va., to the late Gordon and Margaret Barkley, and grew up in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. She was formerly employed by Granville Towers.
She is survived by her husband, Augustus; her son, Michael, and his wife, Brenda; her daughter, Jennifer DeMello, and her husband, David; grandson, Patrick Neville; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Neville. She is also survived by two sisters, Brenda Broglin of Gastonia and Margaret Miles of Roanoke Rapids. She was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Barkley Jr., of Midlothian, Va.
Gloria Jean was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2008 and fought a courageous fight that ended peacefully with her family by her side.
Jean was an animal lover and an advocate of dog and cat rescue. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Goathouse Cat Refuge, 680 Alton Alston Road, Pittsboro, N.C.
