Talk: Cuba in the Obama age

The Chapel Hill Institute for Cultural and Language Education (CHICLE) presents Cuba in the Obama Age, a panel discussion on Sunday, Feb. 8 from 5-6:30 p.m.

President Obama stated clearly on the campaign trail that he was willing to engage with Cuban leaders and, though not ready to lift the embargo, was ready to ease travel and other restrictions on family members and to bring some common sense to an outdated foreign policy. Since then many in Cuba and the U.S. have speculated what he might do and how soon he might act.

CHICLE hosts Carrboro resident Dan Whittle and others in a discussion on whether change is really coming to U.S.-Cuba relations. Whittle, who travels to Cuba regularly for his work with the Environmental Defense Fund, also will talk about how policy changes could benefit EDF’s work in Cuba and facilitate cooperation and collaboration among the two countries over protection of shared resources.

CHICLE is located at 101 E. Weaver St., Suite G1, in Carrboro. For more information, contact CHICLE at 933-0398 or chicle@chi-cle.com.
