UNC summer reading announced

UNC’s own journalism professor, Paul Cuadros, will be read this summer by thousands of incoming freshmen. The 2009 Summer Reading Program Book Selection Committee has chosen his book “A Home on the Field” as the summer reading. The book explores class and ethnic conflict through the story of a Latino high school soccer team in Siler City. It offers insight into the complex issue of Latino immigrants coming to North Carolina to seek better lives and steady work and the resistance they encounter. The committee chose Cuadros’s book from 239 other book recommendations.
