Celebration at the Smith Center

Team returns home today.
Here’s the official word from the university on the ceremony at the Smith Center:

North Carolina will hold a welcome home celebration for the 2009 NCAA Championship men’s basketball team Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Smith Center. Doors will opens at 1 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Concessions and Final Four Merchandise will be available.

Parking and Transportation:
Free shuttle service will be provided by UNC Athletics via Carolina Livery beginning 12:15 p.m. The shuttles will run from the Friday Center Park and Ride Lot off Highway 54 to/from the Smith Center pre and post event.

There will be limited parking on campus due to work and classes being in session. Limited parking will be available in the Rams Head Deck for $5 on entry beginning 11 a.m. The Department of Public Safety will allow free limited first-come-first serve parking in the Manning Lot and Craige Deck beginning at Noon. Limited disability parking will be available in the Williamson Lot in front of the Smith Center beginning at noon.

Campus students, staff and faculty planning to attend the event are encouraged to walk to the Smith Center or ride Chapel Hill Transit’s U and RU buses. Alternative parking may be found in the Town of Chapel Hill pay lots. Fans choosing to use the Town of Chapel Hill pay parking lots are encouraged to walk to the Smith Center or use the Town of Chapel Hill “U” bus services from the Carolina Coffee Shop on Franklin Street.
